3 methods to choose reducer accessories

The reducer mainly uses the rotation of gears at all levels to achieve the purpose of speed reduction. Specifically, when the output speed of the motor is input from the driving shaft, it will drive the small gear to rotate, and the small gear will drive the large gear to rotate. Since the large gear has more teeth than the small gear, its speed will be greater than that of the small gear. Finally, it is output from the output shaft of the large gear, thereby playing the role of deceleration.

 

Gears are an important part of the reducer and also the most critical part of the reducer. So, how to choose the right gear accessories?

 

(1) Pay attention to the material and mechanical properties of the gear

The material of the gear directly affects its strength, wear resistance and service life. When selecting, the appropriate gear material should be selected according to the working conditions of the reducer (such as load size, speed, working environment, etc.). For example, forged steel is suitable for high impact and high strength requirements; cast iron is suitable for low speed and light load conditions;

When selecting gear materials, we should also pay attention to their mechanical properties. Therefore, in the design and manufacturing process of reducers, we should not only consider whether the performance of the gear material can adapt to the working conditions of the gear parts and make the gear parts durable, but also require the gear material to have good processing performance and economy, so as to improve the productivity of the gear parts, reduce costs and reduce consumption. If the gear material is not selected properly, the gear parts will be damaged prematurely or even fail. The mechanical properties of the gear parts include strength, hardness, plasticity and toughness.

 

(2) Gear materials should have high bending fatigue strength and contact fatigue strength

During the gear meshing process, there is contact stress at the contact point of the tooth surface and large bending stress at the root of the tooth, which may cause the strength failure of the tooth surface or tooth body. The main forms of gear failure are tooth surface pitting, tooth surface bonding, tooth surface plastic deformation and gear tooth breakage. Based on these possible situations, the gear material is required to have high bending fatigue strength and contact fatigue strength, the tooth surface must have sufficient hardness and wear resistance, and the core of the tooth must have certain strength and toughness.

 

At the same time, because the small gear is subjected to load more times than the large gear, and the small gear tooth root is thinner and the strength is lower than that of the large gear, it is also necessary to ensure that the hardness of the tooth surface of the small gear is 30-50HBS higher than that of the tooth surface of the large gear.

 

(3) Pay attention to the process performance of gears

The technological performance of gear materials refers to the ability of the gear material itself to adapt to various processing requirements. The manufacturing of gears requires several processes such as forging, cutting and heat treatment, so special attention should be paid to the technological performance of gear materials when selecting materials.

 

Generally speaking, carbon steel has better technological performance such as forging and cutting, and its mechanical properties can meet the requirements of general working conditions.

 

When making specific selections, it is necessary to understand the mechanical properties or material hardness of the gear material, and to clarify that different heat treatment processes can achieve the required hardness range, so as to select gears that meet the process performance.

 

In general, gear transmission transmits motion and power between any two axes in space by meshing each other with gear teeth, and can change the form and speed of motion. Therefore, gear transmission has a wide range of applications, a constant transmission ratio, high efficiency, and a long service life.
